The basic criteria needed to adopt

Before you can even begin your assessment to become potential adoptive parents (PAPs) you must be eligible to apply to adopt.

You will not be able to apply for a Home Study unless you meet, or will meet these few criteria:

 

* You must be over 21 years old

 

 * You must be single, married, in a civil partnership or an unmarried couple (same-sex or opposite sex)

 

* You or one of the prospective adopters is domiciled in the British Islands and have been habitually resident here for at least a year.

 

* You or your partner or any adult member of the household cannot have been convicted or cautioned  in respect of any crime against children.
