UN Convention on Rights of the Child

Att: UNICEF Rights of the Child in Child Friendly Language

Dear Sirs,

I would like to make a comment about your Rights of the Child in Child Friendly Language:

Article 9
You have the right to live with your parent(s),
unless it is bad for you. You have the right to live
with a family who cares for you.

I have an adopted child and run an adoption organisation.  My son was studing this at school and can you imagine what he felt when he read the emotionally laden words 'it is BAD for you'.  His mother could not look after him because she was sick, many children are abandoned/adopted because families cannot look after them for numerous reasons and not just because 'it is BAD for you'.

I would like this to be changed (and I am going to get other adoption organisations onto this) into something like 'you have a right to live with your parents unless they cannot care for you.'

You are giving these children problems when no problems exist and now I have to do damage control.  Can I remind you of Article 3: All adults should do what is best for you, when adults make decisions they should think about how their decisions will affect children.

Please let me know what action is taken in this regard.

Thank you,
Cecile ~Trijssenaar
